Antigone Trial Reflection

I thought this trial was a very interesting experience. Overall, I thought it was a fun, new, experience that really brought me out of my comfort zone. Making questions for the defense witnesses was probably the easiest part of the trial process. It was easy to try to prove her innocence, but it was harder to cross examine the other witnesses and try to prove them guilty of a crime. When cross examining, it was hard to improvise on the spot questions and to create questions that would make it seem as if they were in the wrong to begin with.
Some things I had to learn were: trying to project confidence even if you were not, improvising on the spot, and knowing when to back down. For me, it was hard to get up in front of people and speak, especially because I was not just stating facts or giving a speech, so this really pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me VERY uncomfortable. Even though I was uncomfortable, I had to learn to, or try to, not show it. I also had to rely on my skill of intently listening to the person I was questioning and picking apart what they were saying. Another thing I learned was that the person was not always going to answer how you want them to so to just move on.
I had seen pretend trials on televisions and movies before, but I had never experienced one in real life, or a simulation of one. They are a lot harder than the professionals make them look. I think the jury was a major part of the real trial experience. When we did it the first time, without a jury, I could see how the judges could be biased by their own opinions on the story and their feelings towards the defense or prosecution. Judges are the ultimate authority, but they also have biased opinions about the decision of a case. After the first jury, some people were saying that the decision was rigged, and I could see how that could be with the bias of the judges, because of their own feelings about the play. I thought the jury was a good way to judge this trial, because it was the opinions of people who had no knowledge of the play, and that have not read it. They made a decision off of what they saw with their own eyes.
I also think a big part of the trial was being able to appeal to the jury’s emotions. To make them feel as Antigone would if they were in her position. The emotions of people are a huge tool in winning them over to your side. You also have to appeal to their sense of logic, which was more difficult.
Again, I thought that this experience was fun, although nerve racking, and definitely something new!

Antigone Discussion 2

Quote: Creon: "No angry words, I hope?" (143).
Question: Why do you think Creon cares about his sons opinion of what he has decided? What does Creon's sudden care for another's opinion say about their relationship?

Antigone Discussion

Quote: Antigone: "I did not think your edicts strong enough to overrule the unwritten unalterable laws of God and heaven, you being only a man" (138).
Question: Do you think Antigone is right in that the king's law should not overrule the laws of God and heaven? If so, does that justify her disobedience? Explain why or why not.

Music Tuesday (10-20-15)

Zac Brown Band-"Colder Weather"
She'd trade Colorado if he'd take her with him
Closes the door before the winter lets the cold in,
And wonders if her love is strong enough to make him stay,
She's answered by the tail lights shining through the window pane

[Chorus:]
He said I wanna see you again
But I'm stuck in
colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better
Can I call you then?
She said you're ramblin' man
You ain't ever gonna change
You got a gypsy soul to blame
And you were born for leavin'.

At a truck stop diner just outside of Lincoln,
The night is black as the coffee he was drinkin',
And in the waitress' eyes he sees the same ol' light a-shinin',
He thinks of Colorado and the girl he left behind him

[Chorus:]
He said I wanna see you again
But I'm stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better
Can I call you then?
She said you're ramblin' man
You ain't ever gonna change
You got a gypsy soul to blame
And you were born for leavin' (born for leavin')

Well, it's a winding road
When you're in the lost and found
You're a lover – I'm a runner
And we go 'round 'n 'round
And I love you but I leave you
I don't want you but I need you
You know it's you who calls me back here, baby

Oh I wanna see you again
But I'm stuck in colder weather
Maybe tomorrow will be better
Can I call you then?
Cause I'm a ramblin' man
I ain't ever gonna change (I ain't ever gonna change)
I got a gypsy soul to blame
And I was born for leavin' (born for leavin')

When I close my eyes I see you
No matter where I am
I can smell your perfume through these whispering pines
I'm with your ghost again
It's a shame about the weather
But I know soon we'll be together
And I can't wait 'til then
I can't wait 'til then

1.    Bathos, Pathos: These lines plus the music behind it sets a sad scene that makes you feel for the woman that is losing her love. It almost brings tears to your eyes for her, which continues and becomes more prominent throughout the song
2.    Foreshadowing: The “colder weather” and black night and coffee foreshadow that something bad/sad is going to happen. It foreshadows a long night and a rough, not ideal, road ahead.
3.    Classic: The whole song, especially these lines, portray the classic love story. The story that the woman and man love each other, but the man is scared of commitment so he leaves and the woman is left brokenhearted because she gave him everything.
4.    Tragic Flaw: He is a good man and does love her, but because he cannot commit, settle down, and keeps making excuses for his absence, he loses a good woman and love in his life.

Description/Communication Skills:
“Punctuality is a watchword of the ISTJ”
·         I do not think this is always true because I tend to be late to things even when I do not mean to. “Punctuality” is important to me but I do miss things or am late and do not really care most of the time, unless it is an important event or class.
“ISTJs often give the initial impression of being aloof and perhaps somewhat cold”
·         I find this very true of myself, because when I meet someone I do not open up to them right away. I would rather them think that I do not care than that I care too much. I also find it better to keep it to myself when I understand something that is going on than to share my thoughts.
“ISTJs are easily frustrated by the inconsistencies of others, especially when the second parties don't keep their commitments”
·         Because I am a committed person, in my relationships with others and in my work, I do not understand why others cannot be committed as well. I do not understand why people break their commitments and why they cannot be consistent in their work and relationships—people always tend to need something new.
“they usually keep their feelings to themselves unless they are asked. And when asked, they don't mince words. Truth wins out over tact”
·         I can be very blunt when asked my opinion on something, but I also will not share my opinion or feelings unless absolutely necessary (like for a grade) or when asked. I will not sugar coat what I think to spare feelings.
“An ISTJ’s everyday social circle is likely to be comprised of their close friends, relatives, and acquaintances”
·         I do not like being around people that I do not know, it makes me uncomfortable. I enjoy being around family and close friends the most, with time to myself.
Affirmation Solicitation:
1.)    Dependable
2.)    Humble
3.)    Intelligent
4.)    Ambitious
5.)    Honest
Christa has many positive traits that describe her personality. When it comes to dependability, I know that I can count on her to be here for me in any way I need. If I ever need anything, I know that I can count on Christa to help me. I also know that she would do this for others, and not just her best friend. Her humbleness and Intelligence go hand in hand. Christa is very smart in just about every sense of the word. She is book smart, but also intelligent when it comes to making the right decision and using common sense. This is a strong trait of hers and is not something to be taken lightly. Most importantly though, she is very humble with her abilities. Not many people are as smart as her or do as well as her in school, and I never see Christa flaunting or bragging about her skills. Christa is also very ambitious. If she decides she wants something, there is not much that can stop her from getting to it. Whether it’s an A on a test, a job opportunity, or helping a friend in need, Christa will find a way to accomplish what she has her heart set on. Finally, the trait I admire most in Christa, her honesty. If I ever need her opinion on something, I know that she will give me the answer that she truly feels. She won’t sugar coat things just for the sake of pleasing everybody. Also, she is not only honest with others, but she is honest with herself. Often times the friends we make (especially in highschool) can be fake or exaggerated. Christa has always been true to herself and has been honest with her own identity. Overall, I’m so grateful to have such a positive influence in my life. Christa truly is a great friend and a wonderful person in general.
