Antigone Discussion

Quote: Antigone: "I did not think your edicts strong enough to overrule the unwritten unalterable laws of God and heaven, you being only a man" (138).
Question: Do you think Antigone is right in that the king's law should not overrule the laws of God and heaven? If so, does that justify her disobedience? Explain why or why not.

  1. Yes I do think that God's laws are to be obeyed over man's law, but we should also submit to the laws of the society that we live in. Since it was an order from the king that did not contradict God, I don't think that Antigone was justified in that sense. I understand why she wanted to bury her brother though. She knew the consequences and was willing to face them to give him one final act of respect.
